Real story: how our first remote jobs hire went from ₹15K part-time to leading a 70-person team. The remote jobs roadmap any Indian ops pro can follow.

How Our First Remote Jobs Hire Became a Company Promoter

In 2015, our first remote hire started part-time at ₹15,000 a month. Today, she’s a promoter of our publicly listed company and her story is the roadmap for any Indian ops professional who wants international remote jobs.

Why We Bet on Remote Jobs in 2015 (Before It Was Cool)

We built Addictive Learning Technology as a bootstrapped company until our IPO in January 2024 and we grew it to 600+ people in fully remote roles. Our entire workforce is 100% work-from-home, and 60% of our team has been remote since 2016.

Operations was the first function we moved fully remote. We hired our first customer support person, it worked, and over the next two years we shifted all support and ops roles to 100% remote. Sales and tech followed after the pandemic.

But we didn’t start with this vision. In 2015, we were running iPleaders, our legal education startup and struggling badly to hire good candidates locally:

  • We were small. Nobody wanted to work with us.
  • Our budget couldn’t match funded startups or large companies.
  • Even good hires would quit when they realised startups demand high ownership.
  • People we trained left for brand-name jobs at bigger firms.

This is the reality of every early-stage Indian startup. Nobody wants to work with you when you’re small, and everyone wants to work for you once you’re successful. So we tried something most Indian companies wouldn’t dream of at the time: working with remote talent.

Priyanka’s Journey From ₹15K Part-Time to Remote Jobs Leader

In 2015, we hired our first remote employee for ₹15,000 a month, part-time, six hours a day. She had no remote work experience. We had no remote work systems. Today, that same person is recognised as a promoter of our publicly listed company and leads a 70-person team that helps 1,800+ Indians land international remote jobs every single month.

Her name is Priyanka Karwa. This is the real story of how she did it and why we believe thousands of Indian support and operations professionals can follow the exact same trajectory. If you’ve been waiting for proof that remote jobs from India are real, life-changing, and accessible to people from any background, this is it.

The Part-Time Start That Changed Everything

One of our students referred someone from her network. That person Priyanka joined us part-time. Six hours a day. ₹15,000 a month. It was her first remote job ever.

She started by handling customer support tickets. Standard work. The kind of role thousands of Indian professionals do every day in offices.

But she did it differently. She delivered results. She solved problems. She showed up consistently. Within months, we gave her more responsibilities.

From Customer Support to Head of Ops

Priyanka moved from support tickets to managing a small team. Then to managing a bigger team. Then to heading operations entirely.

It didn’t matter that she wasn’t sitting in an office. It didn’t matter that she had no fancy degree or big-company resume. What mattered was that she could produce results from anywhere.

Today she:

  • Is recognised as a promoter of our publicly listed company
  • Leads our placement and freelance team of 70+ people
  • Helps 1,800+ Indians per month land international remote jobs and freelance opportunities
  • Supported her husband, a dentist, in buying his own clinic in Mumbai after the pandemic

Here is media coverage for her work:

What Made Remote Jobs Work for Us (and Will for You)

Working with Priyanka taught us something we hadn’t fully understood before: remote jobs aren’t a compromise. For the right person, they’re an upgrade.

The benefits of remote jobs we saw firsthand:

  • No office politics — work gets evaluated on output, not optics
  • No commute — hours of life returned every week
  • More family time — especially valuable for women managing home and career
  • No expensive city rent — talent can live anywhere

But here’s what replaces the things you lose by going remote:

  • Focus on delivering results and output over time spent at a desk
  • A problem-solving mindset instead of waiting for instructions
  • Consistency — showing up day after day, even without a manager watching

If you can offer those three, remote jobs reward you in ways office jobs never will. Today, 60% of our 600-person workforce comes from small cities and towns across 180 locations in India. Most never had to move to a metro to build their careers.
