Most IT-based businesses deal with clients located all over the globe, and the majority use English as their medium of communication. As an IT professional, you may have to visit clients in different offsite locations, where a useful conversation is possible only in English
Software descriptions, user interface, and manuals are all written in technical English for a global customer base. Even in internal functioning, teams use English as a language for reports, requirement analysis, client proposals, presentations, and reviews. No matter how much technical knowledge you have, not being able to communicate it correctly, without grammatical errors and spelling mistakes will hold you back in your career.
In order to grow, you will need to make presentations to clients, negotiate with senior management and colleagues, and perform other management functions. All of which will require competency in English.
