A data analyst salary in India per month works out to roughly ₹25,500 in hand in the first year, and ₹52,350 to ₹58,050 a month at three to six years of experience. Those figures convert annual bands of ₹3.6 lakh to ₹5.2 lakh and ₹7.2 lakh to ₹7.9 lakh, which AmbitionBox published on 2 October 2026 from about 1.5 lakh self-reported salaries. The monthly number is not the annual package divided by twelve. Employer provident fund and the gratuity provision both sit inside cost to company and never reach a bank account, which opens a gap of about ₹7,600 a month on a ₹7.2 lakh offer.
Two rule changes make most of the monthly figures published for this role wrong right now. The provident fund wage ceiling rose from ₹15,000 to ₹25,000 on 17 September 2026, the first increase since 2014, which pushed the maximum employee contribution from ₹1,800 a month to ₹3,000. Counting both sides of that contribution, it takes up to ₹2,400 a month out of take-home, and the full effect lands on any package above ₹6 lakh.
The second change is older and missed more often. Income tax is nil across the whole first nine years in this role under the new regime, because a salaried person pays nothing up to ₹12.75 lakh of gross salary. Any page still describing tax as the thing that eats into a ₹6 lakh package is quoting a regime that stopped applying to it.
Data analyst salary in India per month by experience
The monthly in-hand range across the first nine years runs from about ₹25,500 to about ₹85,700, and the single largest jump inside it arrives at the three-year mark.
The reference spine below is AmbitionBox, chosen on sample size: roughly 1.5 lakh self-reported salaries, updated 2 October 2026, against 2,389 profiles at Payscale and 428 submissions at levels.fyi. Its headline band for the role is ₹6.5 lakh to ₹7.2 lakh a year across zero to six years of experience, and it records 16% growth in the average over the two years to 2026.
Every monthly figure in this section rests on four stated assumptions, so they are worth putting on the table once. Basic pay sits at 50% of cost to company, which is the common split in Indian payroll, and provident fund runs at 12% of basic, capped at the ₹25,000 ceiling.
The other two are smaller. Gratuity provision takes 4.81% of basic, and professional tax takes ₹200 a month, with the new tax regime applied throughout.
Freshers, 0 to 1 year
AmbitionBox puts the first-year band at ₹3.6 lakh to ₹5.2 lakh a year, which converts to ₹25,500 to ₹36,900 a month in hand.
Worked at the bottom of the band, the arithmetic goes like this: a ₹3.6 lakh package gives basic pay of ₹15,000 a month, so employer provident fund takes ₹21,600 a year and the gratuity provision takes ₹8,658, leaving gross salary of ₹3,29,742 or ₹27,479 a month. Deduct the employee’s own ₹1,800 of provident fund and ₹200 of professional tax, and ₹25,479 lands. Income tax does not enter at this level at all.
One caveat matters more than the figure. That band rests on 30 reported salaries, against 82,800 in the next row up, which makes it the thinnest row on the page and unfortunately the row most readers of this article want. Payscale’s India data is better sampled here, putting the entry-level average at ₹4,13,462 from 576 profiles, and it sits comfortably inside the AmbitionBox band rather than contradicting it.
Freshers comparing routes into analytics against other entry-level remote tracks will find the same pattern in adjacent roles, and Salesforce admin jobs for Indian freshers sets out one of them.
1 to 3 years
The band tightens to ₹5.2 lakh to ₹5.7 lakh, or ₹36,900 to ₹40,450 a month in hand, and this is the best-sampled row on the whole page at 82,800 salaries.
Read the width of it rather than the midpoint. Two full years of experience moves the monthly figure by about ₹3,550, which is less than most people expect and less than a single title change delivers later. Payscale corroborates the top end, putting its early-career average at ₹5,65,999 from 1,588 profiles.
This is the band where the September provident fund change starts to be felt. At a ₹5.2 lakh package, basic pay of ₹21,667 a month used to sit above the old ₹15,000 ceiling, so contributions were capped at ₹1,800 on both sides. They are now calculated on the full ₹21,667, which costs the employee ₹800 a month directly and another ₹800 indirectly, because the employer’s larger share comes out of the same cost-to-company envelope.
So ₹1,600 a month against what the identical package would have paid in August, rising to the full ₹2,400 once basic reaches ₹25,000. The effect gets larger further up the ladder, not smaller.
3 to 6 years
Here the band jumps to ₹7.2 lakh to ₹7.9 lakh, giving ₹52,350 to ₹58,050 a month in hand on 66,200 reported salaries.
That is a step of roughly ₹12,000 a month over the one-to-three-year row, and it is the largest single move in the ladder. Nothing further along the experience curve matches it in percentage terms.
Something useful happens to the deductions at this point too. Basic pay crosses ₹25,000 a month somewhere inside this band, which means provident fund locks at ₹3,000 and stops rising. Every additional rupee of package from here flows through to the account at a better rate than it did below the ceiling. Power BI, SQL and Python are the skills that AmbitionBox associates with the higher end of this band, and freelance Power BI work is one way to put the same skill on a second invoice.
6 to 9 years
The band runs from ₹7.7 lakh to ₹11.3 lakh, which is ₹56,400 to ₹85,700 a month in hand. The sample is thin again at 58 salaries, so treat it as indicative.
The width is the finding. A spread of ₹3.6 lakh a year means the job title has stopped predicting pay by this stage, and industry, employer and skill mix are doing the work instead. Two analysts with identical tenure can sit ₹29,000 a month apart.
Worth stating plainly, because it surprises people: there is still no income tax at the top of this band. An ₹11.3 lakh package produces gross salary of about ₹10.67 lakh, and the standard deduction plus the Section 87A rebate wipe out the liability entirely.
Data analyst salary in India per month by city
Bengaluru leads on monthly in-hand at about ₹52,750, and Chennai sits last among the five largest markets at about ₹47,900, which puts the whole spread at roughly ₹4,850 a month.
| City | Annual band | Salaries reported | Monthly in-hand at midpoint |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bengaluru | ₹6.9L to ₹7.6L | 34,800 | ₹52,750 |
| Hyderabad | ₹6.7L to ₹7.4L | 18,200 | ₹51,150 |
| New Delhi | ₹6.6L to ₹7.3L | 11,000 | ₹50,500 |
| Pune | ₹6.5L to ₹7.2L | 16,900 | ₹49,500 |
| Chennai | ₹6.3L to ₹7.0L | 10,800 | ₹47,900 |
New Delhi is the interesting row. It carries a lower annual band than Pune, ₹6.6 lakh to ₹7.3 lakh against ₹6.5 lakh to ₹7.2 lakh at the midpoint, and still lands ₹1,000 a month more in hand. Delhi levies no professional tax at all, and neither do Haryana or Uttar Pradesh, so the whole of the National Capital Region keeps ₹200 a month that Karnataka, Maharashtra, Telangana and Tamil Nadu all take. A small number that reverses a city ranking.
Indeed’s India data, updated 23 September 2026, orders the cities differently, with Gurgaon top at ₹8,07,866 a year, then Bengaluru at ₹7,75,370 and Noida at ₹7,41,250. The two sources are not really in conflict. Indeed is working from 572 reported salaries against AmbitionBox’s 1.5 lakh, and at that sample size a single well-paid employer can move a city up the table.
Why the trackers disagree
Five trackers report the same job title in the same country at ₹5.77 lakh, ₹6.24 lakh, ₹6.50 lakh, ₹6.5 to ₹7.2 lakh and ₹14.68 lakh a year. The spread between the lowest and the highest is 2.5 times.
Payscale puts the average base salary at ₹5,77,472 from 2,389 profiles, last updated 10 July 2026, and Indeed reports ₹6,23,730 from 572 salaries. Glassdoor’s India page, on employee-reported figures visible in indexed results, gives ₹6,50,000 from 11,949 submissions as of June 2026, with a 25th percentile of ₹4,30,250 and a 90th of ₹16,95,800.
AmbitionBox gives the ₹6.5 lakh to ₹7.2 lakh band from 1.5 lakh salaries. And levels.fyi reports a median total compensation of ₹14,68,435 from 428 submissions.
Three documented differences explain the gap, and none of them is error.
The first is what gets counted. Payscale reports base salary; levels.fyi reports total compensation including stock and bonus. On the same person those are different numbers.
The second is sample size, and 428 against 1.5 lakh is not a close contest.
The third is population, and it does most of the work. The top three employers on the levels.fyi page are Walmart at ₹41.4 lakh, Amazon at ₹39.7 lakh and JPMorgan Chase at ₹33.3 lakh, so the figure describes analysts at global product companies. AmbitionBox’s largest single industry sample is 47,600 salaries in IT services and consulting, at ₹5.7 lakh to ₹6.3 lakh. Both numbers are accurate about the group they sampled.
The practical rule that falls out of this: match the tracker’s population to your own situation before believing its number, and treat any lone “average salary” figure as unusable. It also explains why peer-reported threads often feel more honest than aggregator averages. They usually are closer to a specific population, which is their strength, and they are still describing one population rather than the market, which is their limit. The same spread shows up in other salary clusters, and the enrolled agent salary in India figures behave the same way.
Where the money goes, worked on a ₹7,20,000 package Conversion assumes basic pay at 50% of cost to company, provident fund at 12% of basic capped at the ₹25,000 ceiling, gratuity provision at 4.81% of basic, professional tax at ₹200 a month, and the new tax regime. Delhi, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh levy no professional tax, so the same package lands ₹200 a month higher there. From CTC to what reaches your account
The gap between cost to company divided by twelve and the figure that actually credits is made of two non-cash package components and two deductions, and at these salary levels none of it is income tax.
The method is short enough to write as arithmetic, and a real offer runs through it in four steps:
gross salary = CTC − employer provident fund − gratuity provision
monthly in-hand = (gross salary ÷ 12) − employee provident fund − professional tax − income tax
A ₹7,20,000 package at 50% basic gives basic pay of ₹30,000 a month. Employer provident fund is capped at ₹3,000 a month, so ₹36,000 a year, and the gratuity provision takes 4.81% of ₹3,60,000, which is ₹17,316. Gross salary is therefore ₹6,66,684, or ₹55,557 a month. Deduct ₹3,000 of employee provident fund and ₹200 of professional tax, and ₹52,357 arrives.
Divide the package by twelve instead and you get ₹60,000, so the real gap is ₹7,643 a month, and every rupee of it is provident fund or gratuity rather than tax.
The provident fund side of that changed three weeks ago. Through notification S.O. 5109(E) of 17 September 2026, the Ministry of Labour and Employment set ₹25,000 a month as the new wage ceiling under Chapter III of the Code on Social Security, 2020, a day after Cabinet approved it.
Coverage extends to 51 lakh additional employees on the government’s own estimate. Maximum employee contribution went from ₹1,800 a month to ₹3,000, and the employer’s pension-scheme share from ₹1,250 to ₹2,083.
Who it touches runs wider than the fresher band, and in the opposite direction to what most summaries suggest. Anyone whose basic pay is ₹15,000 or less is unaffected, because their contribution was already calculated on full basic and sat below both ceilings. Between ₹15,000 and ₹25,000 of basic, the contribution rises from the old ₹1,800 cap to 12% of actual basic, which is a partial increase that scales with pay.
Above ₹25,000 of basic the whole ₹1,200 lands, on each side, because the cap itself moved from ₹1,800 to ₹3,000. In monthly in-hand terms that is ₹2,400, and it applies to every package over roughly ₹6 lakh rather than tapering off. Employers who already contributed on full basic instead of the old ceiling see no change at all, and some will restructure packages to hold cost to company flat, which relocates the loss inside the payslip rather than removing it.
Income tax, meanwhile, starts much later than the folklore suggests. The new regime for 2026-27 charges nil up to ₹4 lakh, then 5%, 10%, 15%, 20%, 25% and 30% in ₹4 lakh steps. With the ₹75,000 standard deduction and the ₹60,000 rebate under Section 87A, a salaried person pays nothing until gross salary passes ₹12.75 lakh. Under the structure used throughout this article, that is a package of about ₹13.4 lakh.
The crossover is visible in the senior band. AmbitionBox puts senior data analyst at ₹12.8 lakh to ₹14.2 lakh for two to nine years, from 25,500 salaries, and at the bottom of that band monthly in-hand is about ₹97,900 with tax still nil.
At the top of it, monthly gross rises by ₹11,386 but in-hand rises by only about ₹5,200, to roughly ₹1,03,100, because the rebate drops away and tax finally bites. That is the one point on the whole ladder where a raise is worth materially less than it looks.
Which gives a concrete thing to ask before signing. Request the basic-pay percentage and the employer’s provident fund treatment in writing, because two offers at an identical ₹7.2 lakh can differ by over ₹1,000 a month on structure alone, and that is negotiable in a way the headline number usually isn’t. For anyone weighing the Indian figure against dollar-denominated work, Payscale’s United States page puts the average base for the same title at $70,643 and entry level at $63,574 from 11,864 profiles, which is the premise behind remote jobs with international startups and the reason the route exists at all. The skills and the certifications that get an Indian analyst to either number are the same ones, and becoming a remote data analyst from India covers that route.
FAQs
How much does a senior data analyst earn per month in India?

Do data analysts earn more than business analysts in India?
At matched experience, business analysts are ahead on AmbitionBox figures. At one to three years the data analyst band is ₹5.2 lakh to ₹5.7 lakh against ₹7 lakh to ₹7.7 lakh for business analysts, and at three to six years it is ₹7.2 lakh to ₹7.9 lakh against ₹8.7 lakh to ₹9.7 lakh. The business analyst sample is larger too, at 1.6 lakh salaries.
Which skills move a data analyst into the higher monthly bands?
Industry placement moves the number more than any single tool. Financial services pays ₹9.3 lakh to ₹10.3 lakh against ₹5.7 lakh to ₹6.3 lakh in IT services, on AmbitionBox data. On demand, the same source lists about 42,000 open roles mentioning Python and 34,300 mentioning SQL, against 4,600 for Power BI and 2,500 for Tableau.
