Remote Shopify Store Manager Jobs From India

Remote Shopify store manager jobs from India come in two shapes that share a title and little else. One is a contract with an overseas brand, priced against a foreign benchmark and worked partly at night. The other is a salaried seat with an Indian brand, paid in local money for local hours. For a manager optimising on money per hour, the overseas contract wins; for one optimising on stability and a promotion path, the Indian seat does.

The published benchmarks sit a long way apart. Payscale puts the average base salary for a US ecommerce manager at $76,947 a year, drawn from 738 salary profiles and last updated on 13 July 2026. Its India page, built on 74 profiles and refreshed on 20 April 2026, puts the same job title at ₹570,000. Glassdoor India, working from 269 submitted salaries, lands higher at ₹8,90,000.

Neither figure is what an India-based remote manager actually gets offered. No independent dataset prices that seat. The offer settles somewhere between the two benchmarks, and the hourly rates in circulation come almost entirely from firms whose business is selling offshore teams.

Demand isn’t the constraint. Shopify reports more than $1 trillion in sales made by businesses on its platform and 675 million unique shoppers buying from Shopify stores in 2023. On 15 September 2026, LinkedIn listed more than 1,000 open Shopify store manager roles in India.

Remote Shopify store manager jobs from India with overseas brands

Remote Shopify store manager jobs from India with overseas brands are mostly contracts, not employment. The brand sits in the United States, the United Kingdom or Australia, the manager sits in Pune or Kochi, and the arrangement bills monthly against a service agreement rather than running through a payroll with provident fund attached. That one distinction drives the money, the hours and, as it turns out, the kind of access the manager is given to the store itself.

What the overseas seat pays

What the overseas seat pays can’t be read off a single number, because nobody measures it directly. What can be measured is the bracket it sits inside.

US seat (Payscale, 738 profiles, Jul 2026) India seat (Payscale, 74 profiles, Apr 2026) India seat (Glassdoor, 269 salaries)
Average base $76,947 ₹570,000 ₹8,90,000
Low end $51,000 (10th percentile) ₹189,000 (10th percentile) ₹5,50,000 (25th percentile)
High end $110,000 (90th percentile) ₹10,00,000 (90th percentile) ₹24,71,200 (90th percentile)
Bonus $1,000 to $13,000 ₹7,000 to ₹298,000 not published
Commission $1,000 to $53,000 not published not published
Total pay range $45,000 to $113,000 ₹190,000 to ₹20,00,000 not published

Read that as a bracket rather than a forecast. The first column is what the work costs a brand hiring domestically in the US. The two India columns are what it costs locally. An India-based contractor working for a Los Angeles apparel label is priced against the first and benchmarked against the second, and where the offer lands depends on how much of the gap the brand is trying to keep.

The two India sources disagree by a wide margin, and the disagreement is more useful than an average of them would be. Payscale’s ₹570,000 rests on 74 profiles. Glassdoor’s ₹8,90,000 rests on 269, and its 25th percentile of ₹5,50,000 sits just under Payscale’s average, which points to a small Payscale sample skewed junior.

Worth flagging: an overseas independent contract is generally paid as gross contract income rather than an Indian employee salary. Benefits such as provident fund, gratuity, paid leave, employer health cover and notice periods depend on the contract and the hiring arrangement, and the rupee value moves with the exchange rate between the invoice date and the day the money clears. Getting paid at all has mechanics of its own, which receiving international payments in India covers separately.

So does the currency alone justify the night shift? At the top of Glassdoor’s India range, ₹24,71,200, that’s arguable. At the 25th percentile of ₹5,50,000, it isn’t close.

What remote Shopify store manager jobs from India actually involve

What remote Shopify store manager jobs from India actually involve is defined more precisely by Shopify than by most job adverts. The platform’s own job description for the role, published in June 2024, splits it four ways: developing ecommerce strategy, maintaining the store, building new digital experiences, and overseeing product rollouts.

Strategy here means numbers rather than vision statements. Shopify lists conversion rate optimisation, revenue targets, average order value lifted through cross-selling and upselling, customer lifetime value, and traffic monitoring. Maintenance means regular site audits and troubleshooting usability and conversion problems as they surface. It also means web standardisation, which Shopify describes concretely: the same typeface across pages, inside the theme and inside any third-party page builder the store runs.

Product rollout is the part that makes the seat operational rather than analytical. The manager turns a commercial goal into briefs for the creative and development teams, then verifies the result went live correctly. The finance side sits next door and is usually somebody else’s problem: ecommerce bookkeeping for US sellers is a separate seat with separate skills.

None of it requires a degree. Shopify’s page states that a business or marketing degree isn’t necessarily a requirement, and names two credential routes: Shopify Academy, which is free and issues what it calls Verified Skills, and Google’s certificate in digital marketing and ecommerce. The Academy catalogue starts short, with Introduction to Shopify at 20 minutes and Navigating the Shopify Admin at another 20.

The reporting rhythm is what brands actually buy, so it’s worth seeing one. A weekly summary to a US founder reads something like: Week of 8 September: sessions 41,280 (up 6.2%), conversion rate 2.41% (down from 2.68%), AOV $63.40 (up $2.10), revenue $63,120. The conversion drop tracks to the new product page template on three collections. Rolling it back on one collection Tuesday to isolate it.

Four numbers, one diagnosis, one action. And that artefact is also the strongest thing to put in front of a prospect, because a client proposal for US buyers built around one of these outperforms a list of tools.

Staff accounts and collaborator accounts

Staff accounts and collaborator accounts are two different doors into the same Shopify store, and which one a manager is handed says a great deal about the job. Shopify rations staff accounts by plan. On its India pricing page, Basic at ₹1,499 a month lists no additional staff accounts, Grow at ₹5,599 allows up to five, Advanced at ₹22,680 allows up to 15, and Plus, from ₹1,75,000 a month, is unlimited.

Third-party collaborator invites are on every plan, Basic included.

That asymmetry explains a good deal of hiring behaviour. A brand on Basic or Grow that has already spent its staff accounts on the founder and a customer-service hire has no seat left to give, but it can still invite an external collaborator at no extra cost. So the India-based manager arrives through the collaborator door, which is functionally the agency door even when there’s no agency involved.

The practical reality is that collaborator access works fine for doing the job and badly for evidencing it afterwards. Frankly, this gets overlooked until a contract ends and there’s nothing to show for it. Asking for the right permissions up front takes two lines: Could you send a collaborator request code from Settings, then Users and permissions? I’ll need Orders, Products, Analytics and Themes at minimum, plus Apps if I’m installing anything. Sent before the first invoice, that reads as competence rather than presumption.

It also draws the boundary of the role. A collaborator with Themes and Analytics access is a store manager. One without them is closer to a virtual assistant for US clients, which is a different job at a different price.

Shopify store manager jobs with Indian brands

Shopify store manager jobs with Indian brands pay a salary and expect office hours. Payscale’s India page puts the average base at ₹570,000 a year, with a 10th percentile of ₹189,000 and a 90th of ₹10,00,000. Glassdoor India’s 269 submissions describe a wider and higher market: an average of ₹8,90,000, a 25th percentile of ₹5,50,000, a 75th of ₹14,13,750 and a 90th of ₹24,71,200.

The individual submissions behind Glassdoor’s average show where the money actually turns. Two managers at one to three years of experience in Mumbai reported ₹3,00,000 in May and June 2026. At four to six years the figure splits by city rather than by seniority: ₹3,00,000 to ₹4,00,000 in Jaipur in June 2026, against ₹8,00,000 in Mumbai in May.

The real step up arrives later, at ₹17,00,000 to ₹19,00,000 for a Bengaluru manager at seven to nine years in April 2026, and ₹20,00,000 for a Mumbai manager at ten to fourteen. But the first five years are flat, which is the part a candidate weighing the two routes should price in.

Volume isn’t the issue. LinkedIn listed more than 4,000 Shopify jobs in India on 15 September 2026, of which more than 1,000 were tagged remote and more than 1,000 carried store manager in the title. Ecommerce manager, the broader title, ran past 3,000.

The Indian seat differs from the overseas contract in ways that matter more than the headline number. It’s employment, so the compensation package may include statutory benefits and employer-provided benefits such as provident fund, gratuity, paid leave or health cover, depending on the employer, employment terms and applicable eligibility rules., and the cost of those is roughly why the gross figure reads lower than a contract invoice for comparable work.

The hours are local, too. A contract with a US brand means a Monday planning call that starts at 7pm IST and a Black Friday weekend worked through the night in November. An Indian direct-to-consumer brand’s peak is the festive quarter, and it happens in daylight.

Scope runs narrower and deeper. A brand hiring in-house wants one person who owns one store completely, including the working relationships with the warehouse, the customer-service desk and the performance-marketing team. The overseas contract more often wants one person covering several stores shallowly, which is the six-store pattern Shopify’s own page describes.

Then there’s the ladder, which is real on one side and not the other. An Indian ecommerce manager can move to head of ecommerce and then into direct-to-consumer leadership inside the same company. A collaborator on an overseas store has no equivalent step: the ceiling is more clients, not a bigger title.

Which Indian brands are actually hiring? Shopify’s India pricing answers that indirectly. A brand paying ₹1,499 a month on Basic has no additional staff accounts and almost certainly no budget for a dedicated manager, because the founder is the manager.

Hiring starts around Grow at ₹5,599, where five staff accounts appear, and gets serious at Advanced at ₹22,680 with 15, or Plus from ₹1,75,000 a month with unlimited accounts and 200 inventory locations. So reading a prospective employer’s plan tier off their storefront is a fair proxy for whether the role has room in it.

The Indian seat also tends to be wider than the overseas one, because more Indian brands sell in person as well as online. Shopify’s POS Pro add-on costs ₹7,000 a month on top of the plan and is where unlimited staff roles and permissions actually live, alongside in-store inventory and pickup. A manager at a brand running both channels is reconciling online and shop-floor stock rather than optimising a single funnel. Shopify Academy organises its catalogue along the same lines, with Point of Sale and B2B sitting beside Storefronts and Marketing as separate subject areas.

A third route sits between the two and gets less attention than it earns: an Indian agency serving overseas brands. The salary is Indian, the clients and the working hours are foreign, and the manager builds an overseas portfolio without carrying the contracting risk personally. For anyone who wants the international experience but not the invoicing, it’s the cheapest way in. The structure is not unique to this role, and remote SDR jobs for US sales roles run on almost the same one.

Applications go through the ordinary channels on both sides. But these roles are rarely won on a CV, because brands hire on evidence that a store improved. This is where most applicants go wrong: they list platforms instead of naming one metric, one change and what happened next. Running a family business’s store, or a ₹1,499-a-month Basic store of your own, produces that evidence faster than another certificate does.

One line on a CV carries that better than a skills section: Rebuilt product pages on a 340-SKU apparel store, moved checkout from three steps to two, and lifted conversion from 1.8% to 2.4% over nine weeks on flat traffic. Three specifics, one measured outcome, no adjectives. A hiring manager in Gurugram and a founder in Austin read that sentence the same way, which is the point: it’s the one asset that travels between both versions of this job.

The trade-off isn’t really money against stability, though that’s how it usually gets framed. It’s variance against a floor. The overseas contract offers a higher gross number, benchmarked against a US average of $76,947, with nothing attached: no leave, no provident fund, no notice period, and an exchange rate that moves between invoice and settlement, while the Indian seat offers Glassdoor’s middle band of ₹5,50,000 to ₹14,13,750 plus statutory benefits and a promotion path, for hours that end in the evening. So a manager with savings, a niche and three overseas clients is better off on the first, and one supporting a household on a single income, with no buffer for the client who goes quiet in month four, is better off on the second.

Questions people ask about remote Shopify store manager jobs

Do these roles require a Shopify certification?

Shopify’s own job description states that a business or marketing degree isn’t necessarily a requirement, and it names Shopify Academy and Google’s certificate in digital marketing and ecommerce as routes rather than prerequisites. Shopify Academy is free, and its introductory courses run 20 minutes each. A credential helps a cold application get read. It doesn’t substitute for a store whose numbers moved.

How many stores does one remote Shopify store manager usually handle?

Multi-store is the norm rather than the exception. The practitioner Shopify quotes in its own role description runs six Shopify stores at once, and agency contracts commonly sit in that range. A single-store in-house seat is more typical of brands on Advanced or Plus plans, where one storefront generates enough work to fill the week on its own.

What does a store manager do that a virtual assistant doesn’t?

Theme and analytics access is the dividing line. Shopify’s role definition puts conversion rate optimisation, average order value, customer lifetime value and product rollout briefs inside the manager’s job, and all four need permissions a support VA is not usually granted. A VA processes orders and answers tickets against a defined workflow. A manager changes the workflow and is measured on what the change did to revenue.
