6 content-writing roles with USD 100k+ earning potential

Rahul was an English teacher and wanted to explore content writing.

After his first class, he was confused.

He understood that he cannot be a commoditised content writer, that he must solve business problems to earn more.

But what kind of jobs could he get? What kind of roles would he play for potential clients?

This would also help him understand where his services fit into the grand design of things.

That is what motivated us to provide an answer which turned his life around later.

Here are a few examples you can do as a content writer from India for US clients and SMEs:

  1. Community manager – A community manager is responsible for building, growing and managing the company’s community online and engaging with customers through social media.

What did Rahul choose?

Initially, Rahul chose to be a community manager as the work would be relatively simpler, without a lot of creativity and technical skills.

After 3 months, when he had already worked with 3 clients and earned approx. 500 dollars, he decided to also do SEO projects and cold email outreach. By then he had learned these new skills as well.

This quickly led to an exponential surge in income.

He hit 1500 dollars per month of earnings in another couple of months.

By the 8th month he was consistently earning USD 2k per month.

We asked him later how he was able to grow so fast.

He explained that having more skills enabled him to command higher pay.

What we are showing you here is a concept called skill stacking.

If you have just one high value skill, you could earn a decent living.

But when you stack one or two or three more amazing skills on top of that, your value to a modern fast growing business can increase by a lot more!

Let’s say you’re a video game character and you have two skills: jump and crouch. That’s all you can do.

Your mobility is limited because you can’t really move side to side.

Now, you learn a new skill—Run—and now you have three skills.

Ah ha! You no longer have to wait for things to come to you—you can go to them. You can explore and move around.

But here’s where the magic of Skill Stacking comes in to play.

You can also combine your new skill of running with your two previous skills of jumping and crouching. Because these three skills work so well together, you have gone from two to at least five skills by adding only one new skill to your repertoire. Here’s what you can do now:

  • Crouch
  • Jump
  • Run (new)
  • BONUS: Jump across gaps by running and then jumping (new)
  • BONUS: Slide under things by running and then sliding (new)

While you only added one new skill, you actually gained at least three new skills.

A less abstract, real-world example around content writing.

Let’s say you’re pretty good with writing content.

Now, you learn storytelling to solve business problems and how to pitch. Here is what you can use it for:

  1. You can write highly motivating success stories of the startup’s customers, capture them on video
  2. You can include those stories in emails that helps generate more conversions
  3. You can write personal stories of founders and help them generate a following, build a personal brand
  4. You can write employee stories that enables startups to hire better employees
  5. You can get the founders invited to podcasts to share those stories and amplify their brand

While you have learned only two skills, you have actually got access to 5 new skill sets.

Now imagine, what is possible when you stack skills to solve the following business problems:

  1. Create marketing copy and scripts that generate more leads
  2. Nurture leads through content to increase conversions
  3. Ensure that you minimise refunds
  4. Enhance capability of the startup to hire high-quality employees
  5. Build a personal brand for your clients
  6. Boss level skill: learn how to hire and manage other writers

If you can provide this wide range of services, then instead of trying to get new clients every day you increase your income by doing more services for the same clients as they go up the value chain.

You have so many wide ranging but connected high value business skillsets around SEO, copywriting, funnel creation, script writing, community management, etc. you can grow much faster since you can wear more hats compared to others and will be critical to fast growth.

If you become irreplaceable you get paid more. More skills and accountabilities make you irreplaceable.

Once you are clear about this, remember that it pays much more to work for clients in advanced economies such as the US, UK, Canada, European countries, Dubai, Singapore, Australia, etc. who can pay much more than Indian clients for the same work.

Of course, apart from skill stacking, you must also build a track record that demonstrates your capability to deliver the results to potential clients and perform outreach.

Would you like to learn how to do that?

How to find work and pitch to potential clients?

How to use AI to do the work faster?

Do you want a step-by-step plan to learn how to do it?
